Hold Up Down tells the story of three groups of people: First, the bank robbers who stash their stolen money in a locker compartment (#6, of course). They perform this robbery during Christmas, thus the really strage Santa Costumes. Along the way, they find themselves hanging out with a cop, thanks to one of them being, like her, a Densha Otaku. No, I am not making this up.
The second group consists of the two less-than-honorable cops who are after them. One acts like a gangster (or tries to, anyway), the other one has a dual personality: A loving yet depressed father (of 6, naturally) and a psychotic speed maniac (so of course, who better to play a quasi-dual role than the man who was Tiga? ;)
The third group is about a disgraced priest who is not as good at dispensing the grace of God as he is setting churches on fire and an unconscious street musician (who he mistakes for, who else, Jesus), which he then accidentally turns into a popsicle version of a certain Christ sculpture, and spends the rest of the movie chasing him down. Oh, and a certain actress who has a bad habit of being typecast as "The Musician/Actor's Girlfriend" hops in at some point...
This movie, while extreme and random at times, does actually hold all three plots together. Of course, this being a SABU movie, they all somehow end up in a haunted mansion where they end up battling each other in one cool, beautifully coreographed 15-minute free-for-all martial arts fight (with Jesus Surfing!). Over the top? Welcome to SABU movies!
Overall, this movie is one crazy ride, with various cameos from other Japanese Music Celebrities (Itou Ayumi of Mean Machine, for one) and references to various other TV Shows (Bayside Shakedown, Paranoia Agent). Perfect for those looking to watch something a little crazy. ^_^
